Ulf Stark (Author), Markus Majaluoma (Illustrations)
The Miracle Boy
Swedish title: Mirakelpojken
Ulf Stark has written a warm, funny story of everyday life, enriched by Markus Majaluoma’s pictures. With their clear colours, movement and sharp details, they really bring the characters to life. Reality and fantasy blend together to make a terrific whole.

Ulf is too little to go with his brother and his friends to watch the Big Cycle Race. Because Ulf is always getting lost, so he isn’t allowed to WALK out of the garden. Riding his bike in the garden is fine, though – but all of a sudden he’s cycled out of the garden and down the street. But there can’t be anything wrong with that, because he didn’t WALK out of the garden.

Somehow, Ulf ends up in the middle of the Big Cycle Race, and suddenly he’s lost again. And Daddy’s told him not to talk to strangers … How is he going to get home?

Reviews:
The Miracle Boy is all about growing up, and about the torments and opportunities of childhood. /…/ This is a charming tale, with a direct narrative style and a great deal of empathy with the child.” Vestmanlands Läns Tidning

“Ulf Stark knows exactly how to make something great out of something small. He gives the reader a calm feeling in their stomach and a warm feeling in their heart, and makes us realise that we have to get out there in order to return in triumph, enriched by our experiences. /…/ Majaluoma’s illustrations convey a humour which perfectly matches Ulf Stark’s skill as a narrator.” Dagens Nyheter
