“Drawing Manga” is the first Swedish book about this technique, and all the exercises have been tried out on Swedish children and young people. The manga course by Esbjörn Jorsäter and Kwok-Hei Mak has been very highly thought of in the manga magazine Shonen Jump, and on Bonnier Carlsen’s manga website www.bemanga.se.
The reader learns the basics of drawing manga step by step – how to draw faces and expressions, how to build up bodies with stick men and simple geometric shapes as a starting point, and how to draw effects, backgrounds, and dramatic images.
“Drawing Manga” is based on the pedagogical skills which Esbjörn Jorsäter used so successfully in his previous top sellers “Drawing Animals”, “Drawing Faces” and “Drawing Fantasy”.
The illustrations are by Kwok-Hei Mak, who is 22 years old; he has grown up with manga and was trained at Serietecknarskolan [The School of Cartoon Drawing] in Hofors. Kwok-Hei has also illustrated the book where Bert makes his comeback, “Bert and the Cold War”.
Awards:
Esbjörn Jorsäter’s earlier books on how to draw have sold in large numbers and have been well received by critics. They are used on countless drawing courses and in a large number of study groups.
