Simone is a 12-year-old girl who moves with her mother and has to start in a new school. All this because of her mother's new love, Yngve. Yngve is awful, boring, a norm.
When Simone arrives to her new school trouble begins when the teacher thinks she is a boy and introduces her as "Simon" to the class. Simone adopts the role as a boy, which of course creates some complications. Simon/Simone becomes friends with Isak in her class, but then falls in love with him. And a girl in her class falls in love with with Simon/Simone.
Simone's grandfather decides to join the family and he is old and will soon die. He plays the cello and enjoys life. Simone loves him and his crazy ideas. He is the happy nutcase in the story.
Nutcases and Norms has been filmed by Swedish television and was broadcasted in 1988-1989.
