This set of books takes an extremely practical approach, and all the exercises have been tested on children of junior / secondary school age. They are drawing books that really work! Esbjörn Jorsäter is an illustrator and teaches at Serietecknarskolan (the school of cartoon drawing) in Hofors. He has considerable experience of leading courses in drawing for school children. The books have sold in large numbers, and have attracted very favourable critical appraisal; they have also been used on countless drawing courses and in study circles.
Because it’s easier to begin by drawing something we are used to seeing, this book concentrates on dogs, cats, horses, and other animals that most of us are familiar with and like. You start by training your powers of observation by studying real animals, move on to sketching for fun, with no great demands placed upon your abilities, then finally you work more systematically, ‘constructing’ the animal with the help of stick figures and simple geometric shapes.
