The evening my father played
Swedish title: Kvällen när pappa lekte
Ulf Stark has written a loving and humorous story about his father. And Mati Lepp has, in his own unique way, once again allowed us a peek into the Stark family’s home and see how it might have appeared one evening in the 1950s.

“‘Now we’re going to play,’ my father said one evening when my mother was away at a class. ‘What did you say?’ my brother asked. ‘Play, you do know what that is?’ my father said. ‘It’s something all children like to do.’ We didn’t know what to say. Of course we liked to play, both my brother and I. But we had never played with my father before.”
So begins a rather unusual evening in the Stark family home. The mother is away and the father plays! The father decides that they should play hide-the-key. The game is played by their father’s rules, and Ulf and his brother don’t want to disappoint him, now that he suddenly wants to play. It’s something that had never happened before. Of course it doesn’t turn out quite the way their father or Ulf and his brother had anticipated.
