August Strindberg (1849-1912) was a Swedish playwright, novelist, and essayist and is considered to be the father of modern Swedish literature. Strindberg's novel The Red Room is often described as the first modern Swedish novel.
2012 marks the 100 year anniversary of August Strindberg's death.
